FARRAGUT: How to ruin a good day
After a dreary winter, it was SO nice to finally have a sunny weekend and get out of the house. My disabled husband cannot walk far, so we drove down to the water’s edge at Farragut State Park, to get a look at the scenery last Sunday - UNTIL we were descended upon by an overzealous park ranger who felt it his obligation to inform us that we were in violation of the “365 day/yr” ruling about DAY fees!
So! The park is officially closed, the information center and TOILETS are shut down for the season… but we were supposed to pay a $5 fee to drive in (hubby never left the vehicle)? Sorry, Mr. Ranger, that you had to work on such a beautiful day, but I guess it takes a certain type of person to do the job!
As we drove out, we noticed Yogi Bear ticketing a car which (apparently) dared to park in the otherwise empty lot. . . maybe taking a sunny day hike? Bet that spoiled their day too! Although we had planned to support the local business community and drive into Bayview for dinner, we were so bummed out, we just came home. But we did make a decision NOT to come back to Farragut nor buy the annual permit this year, and will look for another spot to put our boat in… since the fishing sucks anyway. (By the way, with those fees that you’re collecting, are you FINALLY going to repair the entry roads and fill the hazardous potholes?)
