| February 23, 2010 11:00 PM

COEUR d'ALENE - Coeur d'Alene outscored Lewiston 18-8 in the fourth quarter to break a 40-all tie after three quarters and beat the Bengals 58-48 in a loser-out game in the 5A Region 1 tournament Tuesday night at Elmer Jordan Court.

Coeur d'Alene (15-7) will play at Post Falls (18-4) on Friday at 7 p.m. for the region's second berth to the state tournament, which starts March 4 at the Idaho Center in Nampa.

Jake Matheson scored six of his 11 points in the fourth quarter for Coeur d'Alene, and Connor White scored five of his 19, but Viking assistant coach Steve Bourgard pointed to defense as the turning point.

"Our defense clamped down and held (Justin) Podrabsky to one basket in the fourth quarter," Bourgard said.
