Stanley E. Jones, 83

Stanley E. Jones, 83, passed away Feb. 21, 2010, at Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, after a brief illness with his family by his side. Stanley was born July 2, 1926, to William F. Jones and Eva Laura (Nesbitt) Jones in Chester, Pa.

He attended Chester public schools and graduated high school in 1944. Immediately after graduation he entered the U.S. Army Field Artillery. He saw service in Germany during World War II.

He attended Illinois Institute of Technology, The Institute of Design and graduated in 1953 with a B.S. degree in Product Design. In 1952, he married Marjorie Hurt who was then a student nurse.

During his business career he worked for three Fortune 500 companies serving as Product Designer, Product Design Manager and Manager of a Corporate Design Center. In the late 1950s he experimented with Plexiglas art forms and one of his pieces was part of a state department traveling exhibit that went to several cities in the old Soviet Union. In the early 1980s he received special training as a Creative Problem Solving Facilitator, in this capacity he lead many creative seminars that resulted in new product designs. For two years he was an Adjunct Professor at the University of Illinois, Chicago campus and taught classes in Product Design and Creative Problem Solving.

Stan’s hobbies were photography, woodworking, reading and music and he enjoyed writing limericks and humorous poetry. 

He retired to North Idaho in 1989, and was past president of Post Falls Toastmaster Club, Sight chairman of the Hayden Lake Lions Club and was active in the Blind and Low Vision support group in North Idaho.

Stan is survived by his wife, Marjorie Hurt Jones; two children, Beth Barclay of Coeur d’Alene and Jeffrey Jones of Lafayette, Colo.; and two grandchildren, Brooke Barclay at Oregon State University and Blaire Barclay at Boise State University.

A celebration of his life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010, at Unity Church of North Idaho, 4465 N 15th. St., Coeur d’Alene.
