Powderhorn annexation to be discussed Thursday

HARRISON - Powderhorn Ranch LLC might get one step closer to developing a resort community on Powderhorn Peninsula this Thursday.

The Harrison City Council will hold a public hearing at 6 p.m. over Powderhorn's request for the city to annex the company's roughly 2,000 acres on the peninsula.

The hearing will take place at the EMT Building, 101 E. Frederick Ave., Harrison.

The annexation would be necessary for the Seattle-based company to pursue developing a 1,300-home gated community with multiple golf courses.

The city Planning and Zoning Commission has recommended approval for the annexation.

No levy this year for Northern Lakes Fire district

HAYDEN - The Northern Lakes Fire Protection District, which serves the Hayden and Rathdrum areas, has decided to not float a levy to voters in May.

"Due mostly to the economy, the board has decided to wait until at least November to ask the public for a levy increase," Chief Dean Marcus said, adding that a proposal may not come forward until May 2011.

The district held meetings to gather public input on whether to float a levy.
