The Coeur d'Alene School Board on Monday, March 1 will be asked to approve Deanne Clifford as the new principal of Lake City High School, replacing John Brumley who is retiring at the end of this school year.

A committee interviewed four semifinalists last week, after narrowing the field from eight applicants. The two finalists then met with the school staff and students.

"I'm absolutely honored to be selected," Clifford said. "I know John Brumley's shoes are very large ones to fill. Lake City High School is a high performing school with incredibly gifted and talented teachers, and I know we have great times ahead of us."

Clifford moved to North Idaho from Colorado in 1995 after serving six years as chief financial officer of a mortgage company. She served as assistant treasurer at Lake City High from 1995 to 2000, then was a math teacher and student council adviser at Post Falls High School for one year. She returned to Lake City High in 2002 as an administrative intern, and in 2004 was hired to coordinate the International Baccalaureate program. In August 2007 she was selected for her current position of assistant principal at Lake City High. She also served as the district's summer school principal last year.

She earned her bachelor's, master's and specialist degrees from the University of Idaho. She has served on numerous district and professional committees, including policy development, school emergency response training, calendar and curriculum development. She has been recognized with awards from student council organizations at the state and regional level.

"I was impressed with the caliber of the four finalists," said Superintendent Hazel Bauman. "Deanne rose to the top during the interviews, and I am confident her selection will provide a seamless transition as John ends an exemplary career of service to our district."
