Kellogg girls to play Priest River in state 3A championship game

NAMPA - Four years later, the Kellogg Wildcats are back in the state 3A championship game.

Kirsten Viche, Ryder Ashcraft and Hailey Fuller scored eight points each as Kellogg defeated Weiser 33-26 in the semifinals of the state 3A tournament Friday night at Skyview High.

Kellogg (18-8) will play Priest River (18-6) in an all-Intermountain League championship game today at 2:50 p.m. PST at the Idaho Center in Nampa. The game will be webcast on IdahoSports.com.

Kellogg last played for the state title in 2006, losing to Shelley.

Fuller also had seven rebounds for the Wildcats, who won despite shooting 27.3 percent (9 of 33) from the field. Stormy Cox had nine points and seven rebounds for Weiser (15-9), which shot 28.9 percent (11 of 38).

Kellogg led by as much as 13 points (28-15) late in the third quarter.

NAMPA - Taylor Stewart poured in 25 points as the Spartans beat the Bulldogs in the semifinals of the state 3A tournament at Skyview High.

Priest River (18-6) will play in the state title game for the third time in the past 10 seasons, facing Intermountain League foe Kellogg (18-8) today at 2:50 p.m. PST at the Idaho Center in Nampa. The Spartans also played for the state title in 2004 and '01, losing to Marsh Valley and Lakeland, respectively.

Melissa Hopkins added 21 points, 11 rebounds and three steals for Priest River.

Nellie Makings had 21 points and seven rebounds for Kimberly (20-3), and Alex Pfefferle added 15 points and 11 boards.

NAMPA - Celeste Komanec totaled 13 points, five assists and four rebounds for the Wampus Cats in a loser-out game at the state 1A Division II tournament at Nampa High.

Clark Fork (16-6), at state for the first time since 2003, will play Summit Academy (17-6) for fourth and sixth places today at 8 a.m. PST at Nampa High.

Brocklynn Thornton had eight points and six rebounds for the Wampus Cats.

Rockland finished 9-14.

ST. MARIES - Zach Lehman totaled 16 points, eight rebounds and four steals for the host Lumberjacks in the nonleague game.

Jake Mercer added 12 points, five assists and four steals for St. Maries (10-6), and Seth Patzer had 10 points and eight boards.

"Seth Patzer played a heckuva game for us, rebounding wise - a total game," St. Maries coach Jeff Mercer said.

St. Maries closes out the regular season tonight at Priest River.
