BOISE (AP) - Police shot and killed a pit bull attacking a police dog Friday morning in Caldwell during the arrest of a man authorities say used a stolen car to try to run over two Boise police officers last week.

Jason Cole Bradford, 36, was taken into custody Friday after surrendering to the Caldwell Police Tactical Response Team.

Police say Bradford first attempted to escape but was surrounded and retreated back into the house, then surrendered and was taken into custody without injury.

Police say that during the initial approach a large pit bull at the house where Bradford was located attacked a police K9.

Police say they had to shoot the pit bull to get him away from the K9, who police say received minor injuries.

Bradford is being held on suspicion of aggravated assault on police officers, felon in possession of a firearm, grand theft by possession, and felony parole absconder.
