COEUR d'ALENE - A 34-year-old was arrested Thursday morning for reportedly stabbing his own mother with a pocket knife.

Richard Dominguez was waiting for police inside his mother's residence on the 900 block of N. Eighth Street around 7 a.m. following the attack, and taken into custody without incident, the Coeur d'Alene Police Department said.

He is being held at Kootenai County jail for aggravated battery, and his first appearance before a judge will be today at 2 p.m.

Police reports were not available Thursday, but a press release from the department said Dominguez stabbed his mother in the upper back.

She was treated for minor injuries at Kootenai Medical Center and released later Thursday morning.

It was unknown what led up to, or what instrument was used in, the reported stabbing.

Dominguez was charged with battery in 2004. He was later given a five-year sentence while in jail, with a retained jurisdiction, for battery on a correctional officer after Dominguez knocked a food tray out of an officer's hand and the soup burned the officer's wrist, according to 1st District court files.
