Lakeland tumbles at Moscow

MOSCOW - Mac Stannard scored 20 points to lead three Moscow players into double figures, and the Bears jumped on top early en route to a 72-50 victory over Lakeland in the semifinals of the 4A Region 1 tournament Thursday night at Bear Den.

Nick Clyde added 19 points, Andrew Weaver 16 for Moscow (15-6), which will host the regional title game on Tuesday.

Joel Underdahl scored 17 points for Lakeland (13-9), which plays at Sandpoint on Saturday (6-15) at 6 p.m. in a loser-out game. The winner must beat Moscow twice next week to earn the region's lone berth to state.

NAMPA - Kirsten Viche had 17 points, 11 rebounds and five steals as the Wildcats beat the Eagles in the first round of the state 3A tournament at Skyview High.

Chelsea Morgan added 11 points, eight rebounds and four steals for Kellogg (17-8), which faces Weiser (15-8) in a semifinal game tonight at 5:15 PST.

Sara Viehweg had nine points, 16 rebounds and six blocked shots for Marsh Valley (18-5), which trailed by as much as 17 points.

"We played real well in the first half," Kellogg coach Jeff Lambert said. "We looked real good and were able to run with the ball. We were able to push the ball like we wanted to and played with some confidence."

NAMPA - Taylor Stewart scored 17 points and Melissa Hopkins added 13 points, 12 rebounds as the Spartans beat the Grizzlies in the first round of the state 3A tournament at Skyview High.

Priest River (17-6) will play Kimberly (20-2) in a semifinal game tonight at 7.

Jarcia Martarano had 14 rebounds for Fruitland (22-2), who played without star Hailey Felgenhauer (14 points, 10 rebounds), who suffered a torn ACL recently.

NAMPA - Sasha Kent had 23 points and 11 steals as the defending champion Tigers beat the Wampus Cats in the first round of the state 1A Division II tournament at Nampa High. Teenie Kent added 20 points and nine steals for Richfield (19-4), which plays Dietrich (19-4) in the semifinals.

Shaina Gustafson had 15 points, five steals and four assists for Clark Fork (15-6), which committed 35 turnovers.

The Wampus Cats play Rockland (9-13) today at 5:15 PST in a loser-out game.
