Home is where the heart always was

Tracey Brown has led a charmed life... the Post Falls woman is one of the few to represent Idaho at both the Miss America and Miss USA pageants. She's a Whitworth grad, now in her first year at Pepperdine School of Law. Tracey has traveled the world and even modeled a number of times on QVC. She has a heart of gold to compliment her beauty and brains.

In December of 2008 she made a missionary trip to India and became friends with Tyler Fouche, also of Post Falls. Their paths hadn't crossed in high school but they got to know each other and upon the group's return they collaborated on the creation of A Child's Chance, utilizing what they experienced in India. By June 2009 Tyler and Tracey were dating. By last fall, he'd sold his home here and transferred to California to be close to Tracey while she studied law.

They were spending Christmas in Post Falls when Tyler gifted Tracey with an airline ticket to Seattle so she could spend a girlfriends outing on New Year's Eve. Tracey and her girlfriends spent the day shopping and then got dressed up for dinner. It turns out that Tyler had driven over to Seattle with an arbor he'd made, which was now on Alki Beach. As the sun set on the last day of 2009, a pathway of candles in the sand led Tracey to where Tyler was waiting. He proposed and she said yes. They plan to be married this summer.

I love this story not only because I've known Tracey and her family for several years but for the sweet irony. After traveling the world and experiencing glamour and Third World poverty, it turns out that her Prince Charming was right here all along. If ever there were a reason to root for a happily ever after, it's with Tracey and Tyler. Congratulations!

When he retired from the Worley Highway District after 32 years of service, Ken Zehm looked forward to spending more time with his 2-year-old grandson Shawn Hudson. The crew at the county chipped in for a custom highway sign ... Caution Granddad and Grandson at Play.

Today's birthdays belong to Dorene Russell, Mike Kennedy and Helen Pischner. Enjoy! Tomorrow Lucy Dukes, Jill Monroe, Abbie Nowland and AJ Ghirarduzzi will celebrate. Friday is Teri Runge Nipp's big day and on Saturday Thom George shares a birthday with one of my favorite Marines, Rick Seward, who's marking the big 8-0! On Sunday it's Megan Lee and Donna Pheiffer who will blow out the candles, with Tami Crawford and Holly McNee's birthdays on Monday and Tuesday, respectively.
