Bengals fall to balanced Trojans

POST FALLS - Marcus Colbert led the way with 19 points and seven assists and the Post Falls Trojans rode a 44-30 halftime lead to a 76-57 Inland Empire League win over the Lewiston Bengals on Monday night at The Arena.

Connor Hill added 11 points and 10 rebounds, Matt Lickfold 10 points and Justin Mikkelson eight for Post Falls (16-2, 4-1).

"We got rolling right away," Post Falls coach Mike McLean said. "We came out with a much faster tempo than they wanted.

"I was very happy with our depth - it really showed tonight. We had 11 guys get out there and contribute equal minutes."

Justin Podrabsky led the Bengals (8-9, 1-4) with 19 points.

The Trojans face Moscow at Bear Den on Wednesday.

RATHDRUM - Joel Underdahl grabbed 15 rebounds to go with his game-high 21 points and the Hawks beat the Badgers in nonleague play.

In a game with 69 total missed shots, Lakeland shot 32 percent in comparison to 36 percent by Bonners Ferry.

The Hawks (12-8) are at Sandpoint in the 4A Region 1 tournament opener next Tuesday.

HARRISON FLATS - A good start and an even better finish led the host Warriors to a big North Star League victory.

Kootenai (11-9, 6-2 NSL) held the Miners to 3 first-quarter points, then poured in 30 fourth-quarter points after Wallace cut the lead to single digits.

Big games from Jake Zarpentine (24 points, 13 rebounds) and point guard Taylor Dodson (eight points, nine assists, eight rebounds) helped the Warriors win their regular-season finale, coach Andrew Whipple said. Kootenai doesn't play again until Feb. 26, when it will meet either Mullan or Clark Fork in a district title game.

"We kept our composure, then played really well in the fourth quarter," Whipple added. "We've got some time to get guys healthy and get ready for the postseason."

Clancy Drews led Wallace (8-10, 5-1) with 15 points.

Coeur d'Alene Charter finished 10-12 in it inagural season as a varsity program.

"All in all it's a huge first year to build a program," coach Logan Grant said. "The girls played hard every night, couldn't ask for a better bunch."
