Priest River topples No. 2 Timberlake

SPIRIT LAKE - Taylor Stewart and Melissa Troudt scored 12 points apiece as the Priest River Spartans defeated the Timberlake Tigers, ranked second in 3A, 54-45 on Saturday in the Intermountain League finale for both schools.

"We had a rough shooting night," Timberlake coach Matt Miller said. "We didn't shoot that well, from the floor or the foul line. Priest River did and played a solid game."

Cassie Thompson had 25 points for Timberlake (16-2, 7-1 IML), which enters the 3A District 1 tournament at Lakeland High as the top seed. No. 4 Orofino plays No. 5 Bonners Ferry on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Timberlake plays the winner Wednesday at 7:30.

Priest River (14-6, 6-2) is the No. 2 seed. No. 3 Kellogg plays No. 6 St. Maries on Tuesday at 6 p.m. Priest River plays the winner Wednesday at 6.

RATHDRUM - Emily Stecker and Neena Buchman scored 11 points apiece for the Hawks in a win over the Bulldogs in a 4A Region 1 tournament loser-out game at Hawk Court.

"Offensively, we came out strong in the first half," Lakeland coach Steve Seymour said. "Both teams played well in the first half. We did a better job defensively in the second half to hold them to five points in the third quarter. It was a good balanced team effort. Everyone played quite a few minutes."

Christina Johnson had 18 points for Sandpoint (1-21).

Lakeland (9-14) travels to Moscow on Tuesday for the championship game. The Hawks have to defeat the Bears twice to advance to state.

ST. MARIES - Kirsten Viche and Ryder Ashcraft had 12 points and three steals apiece to lead the Wildcats past the Lumberjacks in the IML finale for both schools.

Shayna Waechter added eight points and seven rebounds for Kellogg (13-7, 5-3).

Dusti Huddleston and Alyson Buell had five points apiece for St. Maries (4-13, 0-8).

The two teams will play again Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in a 3A District 1-2 tournament loser-out game at Lakeland High.

Olivia Kincheloe had seven points for Kootenai (0-17, 0-8 NSL), which travels to Mullan in a 1A Division II District 1 tournament game Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Brocklynn Thornton had nine points for Clark Fork (14-5, 8-0), which faces Wednesday's winner on Saturday at Clark Fork in the championship game.
