McEUEN: Carousel would be colossal

| December 31, 2010 9:00 PM

Wow! What a fantastic opportunity. To get the original carousel back where it belongs, right here on the lakeshore in the middle of downtown.

That's where it has to be, in the new McEuen Park.

The planners of the new park have done a fantastic job of building a showpiece in the middle of the city. Their planned three story underground parking is nothing short of genius and I understand their reluctance to put any buildings on the site, but this is not just any old building, it is the original carousel and it has to be there. It fits right in with everything else they want to accomplish. It was not in their sights when they did their original planning, but it is now.

They have said the plan is not in concrete and they want input. I really believe this would be an addition that most everyone would rally around.

And as a sidelight, please Mr. Hagadone, reconsider your plans for the memorial gardens for your mother. Between the new McEuen Park and the gardens, Coeur d'Alene could be really appreciated as the jewel of the entire Northwest than it already is.

Hopefully the city council is now a much wiser one than those who shot it down in the past, in spite of overwhelming public support.

Coeur d'Alene supporters have always risen to the challenge and I'm sure the financing and hard work needed to bring this carousel project to completion will be just another rallying point for the great people of Coeur d'Alene and the surrounding area.

Yes, we have the natural beauty all around us, but the real beauty we have are our people.

Thanks again to all who are making both the carousel and the park closer to reality.
