LEVY: Music to this voter's ears

| December 29, 2010 9:00 PM

When this next levy comes our way, I know how I will be voting.

A few weeks back, I had the immense pleasure to be present at the Lake City High School's winter band concert. It was not the first concert at this high school I had attended, nor will it be my last. It was almost two hours of listening pleasure, put on by high school age musicians, and the Musical Instructor, Mr. Sandford. We were entertained, moved to tears, inspired, and saw the hard work and dedication these people put into that show and every other show I have seen them perform. All for a meager donation.

We all know the value of music in our world, but when we learned what the budget for the music program was, that was the "moved to tears" part. I know there are cuts across the board in all our schools, but if I have the opportunity to be a contributor to a program like this, that encourages and raises the bar for so many students, I plan on stepping up to the plate. These concerts are open to the public. I strongly encourage all people who enjoy music to attend the next concert and bask in the glory of your levy dollars well spent. Heartfelt congratulations to all the musicians, volunteers, and Mr. Sandford for making these concerts and marching band presentations happen. Please vote yes on the next levy. I know I will.
