Post Falls boys outlast Hermiston in 3 OT

HERMISTON, Ore. - Connor Hill scored 31 points to lead the Post Falls Trojans, ranked No. 1 in 5A, past the Hermiston Bulldogs 86-83 in a triple overtime nonleague game Tuesday night.

"I thought our depth wore them down in overtime," Post Falls coach Mike McLean said. "Kyle English and Damon Gonzales were great off the bench and I was very happy with what they brought tonight."

Marcus Colbert had 27 points and six assists for Post Falls (6-0), which faces Chiawana of Pasco, Wash., in the Holiday Inn Express Invitational on Tuesday at North Idaho College.

"Things weren't easy for us tonight," McLean said. "Shots that normally fall weren't tonight. We had to grind this one out. Our guys took their best shot, persevered and got the victory."

Michael Hillman had 11 points and 12 rebounds for Post Falls.

COEUR d'ALENE - Mark Smyly had nine points and eight rebounds for the host Timberwolves, who pulled away in the second half after struggling offensively in the first half.

Lake City (5-2) trailed 12-11 after a first half which saw the T-Wolves go 3 for 15 from the field, 5 of 14 from the line.

"That first half was just mind-boggling," Lake City coach Jim Winger said. "I've never seen anything like that before. I don't know how many layins we missed in the first half, but it was a lot."

Lake City finished 14 of 43 from the floor, 11 of 22 from the line.

Winger praised the play of his defense in holding Glacier, from Kalispell, Mont., to 6 for 39 from the floor.

Scott Turner grabbed 10 rebounds for Lake City, which plays Lake Stevens (Wash.) next Tuesday in the first round of the Holiday Inn Express Invitational at North Idaho College.

RATHDRUM - Corey Langerveld scored 20 points to lead the Greyhounds past the Hawks in a nonleague game at Hawk Court.

Hunter Arno scored 18 points on 8-of-9 shooting for Lakeland. The Hawks went 12 of 27 from the foul line.

"Hunter took some good shots tonight," Lakeland coach Trent Derrick said. "We just need to make those shots from the line and do a better job of rebounding."

Lakeland (0-6) hosts Riverside today.

Cooper Simpson scored 15 points for Timberlake (0-8), which faces East Valley in the Miller's Harvest Foods tournament on Tuesday.

"We shot the ball really well in the first half," Coeur d'Alene Charter coach Brian Childs said. "We were able to create some turnovers with our defense and got out to a nice lead."

Greg Roman had 19 points and eight rebounds for Coeur d'Alene Charter (7-1), which faces Kellogg in the Kellogg holiday tournament on Tuesday.

HERMISTON, Ore. - Tori Davenport scored 13 points as the visiting Trojans held the Bulldogs to two field goals in the first half.

"We played great defense the entire game tonight," Post Falls coach Chris Johnson said. "We held them to two field goals and blew it open in the second half with our defense. We were real balanced scoring tonight, which was a nice bonus."

Brooke Litalien scored eight points for Post Falls (5-4), which faces Chiawana of Pasco, Wash., in the opening round of the Holiday Inn Express Invitational on Tuesday at North Idaho College.

COEUR d'ALENE - Junior Katie Rowe scored a career-high 21 points and also had 10 rebounds for the Timberwolves against the visitors from Kalispell, Mont.

Rowe hit three 3-pointers and scored 15 points in the first half for Lake City (9-1), ranked fifth in 5A.

"Katie was good from the start," Lake City coach Royce Johnston said. "She was aggressive at both ends of the floor. That was her best game at Lake City."

Jenna Lewis hit five 3s and scored 15 points for the Timberwolves, who sank 12 3-pointers. Point guard Jasmyn Smith suffered a knee injury in the first quarter and didn't return. Johnston said she was to be examined today.

Sydney Butler scored all nine of her points in the first quarter for Lake City, which plays Federal Way (Wash.) next Tuesday in the first round of the Holiday Inn Express Invitational at North Idaho College.

"This was by far her best game as a varsity player," Lakeland coach Steve Seymour said of Davis. "She did a great job of running the floor and always seemed to come up with a big shot when Pullman closed the gap. She had a great game."

Neena Buchmann had nine points and six steals for Lakeland (6-5), which hosts Riverside today at 1:45 p.m. in a makeup game.
