Caps back on top in Southeast

Andrew Gordon had a goal and assist for his first two NHL points, and the Washington Capitals earned their second straight victory by beating the New Jersey Devils 5-1 on Tuesday night.

Washington is enjoying a winning streak after snapping an eight-game losing streak with a victory at Ottawa on Sunday. John Carlson added a goal and an assist, and Michal Neuvirth made 35 saves.

The Capitals jumped back over Atlanta into first place in the Southeast Division.

Blues 4, Thrashers 2: Ty Conklin stopped 37 shots, leading St. Louis at Atlanta.

Sabres 5, Ducks 2: Tyler Ennis scored two goals and Buffalo beat visiting Anaheim.

Stars 5, Canadiens 2: Jamie Benn scored a short-handed goal, Brad Richards added a power-play tally, and Dallas beat visiting Montreal.

Kings 5, Avalanche 0: At Denver, Jonathan Quick stopped 23 shots for his third shutout of the season, Dustin Brown had two goals and two assists, and Los Angeles ended Colorado's six-game win streak.

Sharks 2, Oillers 1: Logan Couture and Dan Boyle scored 3:28 apart in the second period, leading host San Jose past Edmonton.
