South Dakota defeats Eastern Washington

VERMILLION, S.D. (AP) - Trevor Gruis scored 19 points to lead South Dakota past Eastern Washington 78-72 Monday night.

Three other Coyotes were in double figures. Charlie Westbrook and Jake Thomas each had 15 points and Steve Tecker scored 12 for South Dakota (5-7).

Glen Dean led Eastern Washington (3-8) with 16 points. Cliff Ederaine had 14 points and nine rebounds for the Eagles.

EWU hosts Sacramento State on Dec. 29.
