Elijah Sandlin Jr., 83

Elijah Sandlin Jr., 83, of Athol, lost his battle with cancer on Dec. 16, 2010, at home. His battle was fought bravely and valiantly.

He and his wife moved to Athol in 1968 where they raised their six children. He married his lifelong love Frances Moore on Aug. 11, 1950, after he enlisted in the Army and was assigned 187th Airborne in the Korean War. Elijah Sandlin Jr. loved his family, hunting, fishing, four wheeling, traveling, studying scriptures and discussing politics. He was preceded in death by his son, Brian Kelly Sandlin.

Elijah left behind his wife, Frances Sandlin of 61 years; son Gary Sandlin and his two children, Michael and Montana; daughter Debra Shackelford and her four children, Ericka, Roger, Lacey and Lucas; son Brad Sandlin and wife Debbie and their three children, Cassey, Chrissy and Brad Jr.; daughter Scherry Cripe and husband Mike and their two children, Clayton and Kalobe; son Greg Sandlin and wife Desila and their three children, Curtis, Cheyenna and Elijah; and daughter Kelly Sue Sandlin and husband Tanner Bell along with there four kids, Trace Katelynn, Talon and Brian. He also had 16 great-grandchildren.

Our family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to all the employees and staff of Kootenai Cancer Center. For the overwhelming out pour of kindness, generosity and support they have displayed. In addition we would like to thank all our friends and family from Lakeland Second Ward, KMC, and Lakeland Fire Department who were instrumental in the care of our loving husband, father and grandfather. A special thank you to Dr. Davenport, Dr. Lamm, Dr. Bowen, Brenda Wild, Maggie McElfresh and Bishop Duane Morton. Our lives have been touched in a way that is immeasurable.

Service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 27, 2010, at the Church of Jesus Christ and Latter-day Saints in Rathdrum. Reception to follow.
