COEUR d'ALENE - Need a place to shake off that New Year's Eve hangover? Or maybe you're just looking for way to start 2011 with a refreshing walk or run on New Year's Day.

Either way, the 34th annual Hangover Handicap is for you.

The five-mile fun run is scheduled 9:30 a.m. Friday. It begins and ends behind Michael D's restaurant at 23rd and Coeur d'Alene Lake Drive.

It is an out-and-back course that goes along the scenic Centennial Trail.

Generally, about 400 runners and walkers participate. Some come dressed in colorful costumes, while others make it a family activity and a few even come with a resolution to run.

There are refreshments at the finish line.

The race is a fundraiser for TESH, a nonprofit that helps people with disabilities learn to live independently.

Strollers and dogs on leashes are welcome.

Registration is $20, including day of race. It's $10 for the no-shirt option.

Register at TESH, 3803 Industrial Ave. Forms are available online at www.teshinc.com.
