COEUR d'ALENE - University High of Spokane took the lead in the team standings through the quarterfinals of the opening night of the 39th annual Tri-State Invitational on Friday at North Idaho College.
Garret Belgarde of Sandpoint advanced to the 119-pound semifinals, starting today at noon.
Tyler Booth (140) of Post Falls advanced to the semis by defeating third-seeded Josh Lauderdale of Lakeside (Wash.) by a 3-1 decision.
Caleb Davis of Coeur d’Alene advanced to the semifinals at 189 after beating Jacob Vega of Chandler (Ariz.) 1-0 in the quarterfinals.
James Ost, the top seed at 135 from Post Falls, lost by a 7-4 decision to Shannon Maris of Orting to fall into the consolation bracket. Mitch Crain, seeded sixth for Post Falls at 112, lost to top-seeded Tyler Clark of University by pin.
Josh Seeberger of Sentinel upset top-seeded Nathan McLeod of Post Falls by a 7-2 decision.
Coeur d’Alene senior Kenny Staub, the top seed at 140, lost in the second round to Tyler McLean of Mead by a 3-1 decision. A.J. Konda, seeded third at 103 for Coeur d’Alene, lost in the second round to Dylan Schulte of Sentinel by a 7-4 decision.
Jake Graham, seeded fourth at 145 for Coeur d’Alene, lost to Nico Moreno of Moses Lake by an 11-2 decision. Johnny Peregrina, seeded second at 160 from Coeur d’Alene, lost to Tanner Davis of Central Valley by a 5-4 decision in the opening round.
Cole Jerome, seeded third at 119 from Kellogg, lost in the quarterfinals to Ryan Rodrigo of Lake Stevens by pin at 2:33.
Finals will start tonight at 6 at Christianson Gymnasium.
