Vikings lose close one to start three-game road trip

| December 17, 2010 8:00 PM

TACOMA, Wash. - Tre'shaun Lexing scored a game-high 23 points as the Lincoln Abes, ranked fourth in 3A, defeated the Coeur d'Alene Vikings 62-58 in a nonleague game Thursday night.

"They are a tough team to play on the road," Coeur d'Alene coach Kent Leiss said. "We had a chance to tie it with under a minute to go and couldn't score. We had to foul late and they were able to pull away. I was proud of our guys for how they played, we just couldn't finish the game."

Deon Watson scored 18 points, followed by Chad Chalich with 15 for Coeur d'Alene (2-2), which plays at Bainbridge Island tonight and at Mt. Tahoma in Tacoma on Saturday.

"Both Deon and Chad were outstanding tonight," Leiss said. "We just turned the ball over a couple more times than they did. But I was proud of the way we played and happy with how we competed."

Coeur d'Alene defeated Lincoln 91-90 last year in double overtime at the Coeur d'Alene Holiday Inn Express Invitational at North Idaho College.
