Thomas A. Hanson, 66

After a brave battle with cancer, Tom went to be with his Lord and Savior Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, surrounded by his family and friends. He was born Aug. 31, 1944, in Coeur d'Alene to Art and Marge Hanson.

Tom was a 1962 Coeur d'Alene High School graduate and attended North Idaho College. He played trumpet for six years in the 560th Air Force band manned by Washington Air Guard personnel.

He started working with his father at North Idaho Abstract. In his early 20s he started his banking career with First Federal Savings and Mountain West Mortgage. After many years in banking he changed careers and began working as a residential real estate appraiser. He eventually opened up Hanson Appraisals and retired at 65.

He enjoyed woodworking, golf and dedicated his life to North Idaho. He was a member and past president of the Post Falls Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Coeur d'Alene Elks and the Elks dance band, later known as the Coeur d'Alene Big Band. He was also in the Post Falls Kiwanis and received the Kiwanian of the year award.

At present, he was a member of the Hayden Lake Eagles and the Coeur d'Alene Elks.

He is preceded in death by his father, Arthur Hanson; mother Marge White-Hanson; daughter Sheli Hanson and second wife Marcella Carroll Hanson.

Tom is survived by his wife, Francie Spencer-Hanson of 11 years; daughter Debbie Hanson-Setter (Rich Setter); grandchildren Haley, Courtney and Andre of Easton, Md.; daughter Tracy Hanson of Ormond Beach, Fla.; sister Carol Miller of Tacoma, Wash.; and stepchildren Denise and Chris Thaxter of Post Falls.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 17, 2010, at English Funeral Chapel, 1133 N. Fourth St., Coeur d'Alene. There will be a reception immediately following the service and the funeral chapel.
