MEN'S BASKETBALL

SALT LAKE CITY - Jason Gamblin scored 24 points on 10-of-11 shooting from the free-throw line as the Salt Lake Bruins defeated the top-ranked North Idaho Cardinals 73-59 in Scenic West Athletic Conference play Saturday at Bruin Arena.

"We had a hard time finishing baskets tonight," said NIC coach Jared Phay, which lost for the second straight night after entering league play undefeated. "Hopefully we'll learn from this one and move on."

Salt Lake had four players in double figures as Given Kalipinde had 14 points and 14 rebounds and Alfonzo Hubbard 18 points for the Bruins (10-1, 1-1 SWAC).

“We just couldn’t get a shot to fall for us,” Phay said. “We missed a lot of easy shots and weren’t that effective on defense tonight.”

Michael Hale had 15 points, six rebounds and three assists for NIC (13-2, 0-2), which returns home to face Camosun College of Victoria, British Columbia, on Dec. 31.

All told, NIC (6-0) won five matches by pin.
