Francis V. 'Hank' Chandler, 94

Francis V. "Hank" Chandler, 94, of Hayden, died Dec. 6, 2010, at Kootenai Medical Center of myocardial infarction. He had lived for the past two years at Wellspring Meadows Assisted Living Home in Hayden.

He was born Dec. 4, 1916, in Imogene, S.D., to Maxwell and Marietta (Baker) Chandler, and lived there until moving to Idaho in 1937. He was a graduate of Spearfish High School in Spearfish, S.D.

Hank served for four years in the U.S. Army during WWII, primarily in New Guinea and the Philippines. He was discharged in 1946.

Following his service in the military, he worked for about 10 years in power line construction before joining the U.S. Department of Transportation, from which he retired in 1979, after 20 years.

Hank is survived by two brothers, Clifford Chandler of Hayden and Ward Chandler of Silverton; three sisters, Marjorie Stallman and Evelyn Bossingham of Coeur d'Alene, and Caryl Basso of Honolulu, Hawaii; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; as well as two sisters, Ruth Olson and Muriel Lynch; and one brother, Fred Chandler.

No service will be held until the spring. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d'Alene has been entrusted to handle the cremation.
