Tigers edged by Newport

NEWPORT, Wash. - Down by 1 point with 2.5 second left, the Tigers' desperation half-court shot missed and Newport escaped with a 38-37 nonleague victory Monday.

Timberlake senior Cassie Thompson hit two free throws with 16 second left to put the Tigers up by 2 points before Newport brought the ball upcourt and drained a late 3-pointer for the 1-point lead.

Thompson led Timberlake with 14 points. Ashley Peters added eight for the Tigers (3-3), who are back in action Thursday at Wallace.

The Tigers (0-3), who face Coeur d'Alene Charter tonight at Holy Family, made 14 of 31 from the charity stripe.
