Shovel out hydrants for fire safety

| December 7, 2010 8:00 PM

During the winter season one of the things that the area fire departments deal with is snow piled up around fire hydrants.

With that in mind, the Northern Lakes Fire District is asking residents to clear snow away from hydrants for improved fire safety.

When a structure fire occurs, one of the first tasks for the arriving fire units is to establish a water supply. Although firefighters carry water on our trucks this water may only last a couple of minutes therefore we have to get additional water by hooking up to a fire hydrant.

Many times these fire hydrants are buried by snow. Please take a look at the hydrants in your neighborhoods; if they are covered with snow please clear a path and dig out the snow around these hydrants.

Make a commitment to help make your neighborhoods safer.
