KENNEDY: City mustn't pay fees

| December 5, 2010 11:53 AM

As a property owner and taxpayer I feel the City of Coeur d'Alene should not pay legal fees for Mr. Mike Kennedy. If anyone is responsible for those fees it is Mr. Brannon, since he chose to question the election results.

If the city intended to pay Mr. Kennedy's legal fees, then they should have required him to use the city's legal staff and not hire an outside high-priced legal counsel.

How does the City of Coeur d'Alene justify paying $105,000 in legal fees for the defense of Mr. Kennedy in the election of a part-time position that pays $9,600 a year? The $105,000 could cover the entire council's salary for approximately two years.

We are in the middle of a serious economic recession with numerous taxpayers unemployed and struggling to make ends meet. The City of Coeur d'Alene should not be using taxpayer money to pay such items.
