WRESTLING

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Former Bonners Ferry High and current Boise State standout Adam Hall earned a 2-1 decision over Bubba Jenkins of Arizona State to win the 157-pound championship at the 29th annual Cliff Keen Invitational on Saturday at the Las Vegas Hilton.

North Idaho sophomore Jamelle Jones lost to Riley Orozco of Cal State Bakersfield and finished sixth. It was the first time since 2005, when Jeff Hedges finished seventh at 125 pounds, that a Cardinal wrestler had placed at the tournament.

"To come down and wrestle that caliber was good for all our guys," NIC coach Pat Whitcomb said. "Anytime you can get up against some tough competition, it helps the kids get recruited and now we know if we get into a tough situation at nationals, we've been in tougher places. For Jamelle, it's fun. He got a big win this morning and wrestled a good tournament."

Cornell won the team title with 140 points.

NIC finished the tournament 26th out of 36 teams and will host Northwest (Wyo.) on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Christianson Gym.

Highline 52

COEUR d'ALENE - Sophomore DeAndre Taylor scored 14 points off the bench for the top-ranked North Idaho Cardinals in a 67-52 win over Highline Community College of Des Moines, Wash. in the semifinals of the Bigfoot-Cardinal Shootout on Saturday at Christianson Gymnasium.

"Highline's a good team," NIC coach Jared Phay said. "We knew it was going to be a battle tonight. I thought we defended well. We were a little out of synch on offense, but they're a good defensive team themselves. DeAndre played really well on both end of the floor and put a lot of pressure on their guards."

NIC (12-0) will face the Community Colleges of Spokane for the tournament championship today at 3 p.m. at Christianson Gym.

Spokane advanced by defeating Green River 77-67 in the other semifinal on Saturday.
