Vandals look to send 15 seniors out in style

Idaho football coach Robb Akey said all the requisite nice things about San Jose State, the Vandals' opponent today (2 p.m., SWX, KVNI 1080) in their season finale.

But in reality, Akey said he's more concerned that his 15 seniors go out winners in their final college game with the Vandals (5-7, 2-5 Western Athletic Conference).

He mentioned quarterback Jordan La Secla, who is "winging it all over the yard." He noted wide receivers Jalal Beauchman, Noel Grigsby and Chandler Jones, who all have at least 48 receptions.

San Jose State (1-11, 0-7), under first-year coach Mike McIntyre, has lost seven games by four points or less.

"They've been close, they don't have much in the win column but they've been close," Akey said. "What we do matters volumes more than anything they bring in here to the table. They're a hungry football team that wants to have success, but we need to make sure we take care of our business."

Idaho's hopes of qualifying for a bowl game for the second straight year ended with last Saturday's last-minute loss at Fresno State.

"We need to end this on a high note," Akey said. "Six wins are better than five. We need to send the seniors out with a smile."
