Cards' Jones looks to cash in
WRESTLING
LAS VEGAS - The NJCAA second-ranked North Idaho Cardinals have one wrestler in contention to place at the 29th annual Cliff Keen Invitational at the Las Vegas Hilton.
Jamelle Jones (184 pounds) advanced to the quarterfinals with wins in his first three matches, but lost 5-4 to second-seeded Anthony Biondo of Michigan to fall into the consolation bracket. He could finish as high as third.
"It was a heck of a match," NIC coach Pat Whitcomb said. "Jamelle took him down in the last 30 seconds, but he got away late to force overtime."
Jeremy Bommarito (157) went 3-2, losing to Andrew Balch of Cal State Bakersfield to fall out of the tournament.
Marcel Dubose (285) was leading against David Morgan of Cal State Bakersfield in the quarterfinals before a torn pectoral muscle forced him out of the tournament.

COEUR d'ALENE - Sophomore Tyrone White had 16 points and eight rebounds as the top-ranked North Idaho Cardinals rolled past the Gonzaga club team 111-50 in the opening round of the Bigfoot-Cardinal Shootout on Friday at Christianson Gymnasium.
NIC (11-0) will face Highline Community College tonight at 7:30 p.m. in a semifinal game. Highline beat Edmonds 81-41.
