'Sounds of Christmas' this weekend at NIC

| December 3, 2010 8:00 PM

Families are encouraged to attend this year's annual holiday concert at North Idaho College Saturday and Sunday, which will include the traditional holiday sing-along featured each year.

The "Sounds of Christmas" concert will include several holiday-themed pieces by the NIC Wind Symphony led by Terry Jones. The band will perform Sean O'Loughin's "Holiday Portraits" as well as an upbeat Jeff Simmons tune called "Secret Agent Santa."

The NIC Cardinal Chorale, Chamber Singers and Jazz Co. jazz choir will perform selections such as the American folk song "Go Tell It on the Mountain," "The Most Wonderful Time of the Year" and the Thad Jones piece "A Child is Born."

The NIC choral groups, which are conducted by Max Mendez and accompanied by Toni Helms, will then join forces with the NIC Wind Symphony for the traditional holiday sing-along of well-known Christmas carols with the audience, such as "Winter Wonderland," "Silver Bells" and "We Wish You A Merry Christmas."

"Sounds of Christmas" will be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday in NIC's Boswell Hall Schuler Performing Arts Center.

The concert is free and open to the public.
