Don Mitchell, 63

Don Mitchell was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Nov. 11, 1946. He lost his battle with cancer on Aug. 28, 2010. He was the fourth child of six born to Loren P. and Rita M. (O'Rourke) Mitchell.

As a young man, Don was drafted into the United States Army, Corps of Engineers where he received specialized training in combat power and communications systems. He advanced to the non-commissioned officer rank of platoon sergeant. After his honorable discharge, Don attended Ocean County Community College in New Jersey where he achieved licenses as a Master Electrician, Master Plumber and Master Mechanical Systems Designer.

Don formed Advanced Technical Services in Lakewood, N.J. The company specialized in the design of mechanical systems for buildings, including solar hot water heaters and specialized electrical control systems. Don and his company always focused on quality craftsmanship and world class service.

Don moved to Coeur d'Alene in 1990 with his brother Loren and his wife Pat. Together they founded "Dam Good Signs" which became quite popular. Many of the signs that Don designed are located throughout the Coeur d'Alene area.

Don is survived by his mother, Rita; brothers, Loren, Doug and Jeff; and sisters, June and Valerie Mitchell. Don's daily random acts of kindness and his happy smile coupled with his delightful sense of humor and skilled craftsmanship will be missed.
