Thomas D. Short II, 75

| August 27, 2010 2:10 PM

Tom passed away peacefully in Whitefish, Mont., on the morning of Aug. 20, 2010, in the company of his children. He joined his King and Savior in heaven.

Tom was born and raised in Celina, Ohio, to parents Mary and Thomas Short Sr. After graduating from Duke University in 1958 with a B.S. in Geology, Tom went on to work in Engineer Intelligence for the U.S. Marine Corps Amphibious Reconnaissance School in Washington, D.C. Thereafter, he began a lifelong profession as an explosives engineer, becoming a leader in the field of drilling, blasting and demolition. His exciting work spanned the globe and included many notable projects, such as the Trans Alaskan Pipeline, the Auburn Damn and the Bunker Hill smoke stacks.

Tom's life was ever-moving and touching those around him with an infectious zeal. He enjoyed skiing, trap and skeet shooting, and the great outdoors. He also had a passion for world travel and history.

He moved to Coeur d'Alene in 1978 where he resided with his family until 1996, at which time he returned to his beloved Montana, a place that he had spent time throughout his life.

Tom is survived by his daughter, Katy Short; his son, Adam Short and spouse Tammy Short; and two grandchildren, Holden and Lilah Short.

He will forever be remembered, celebrated, loved and missed. We can't wait to see you again Papa.
