Spirit Lake blues festival resurrected

SPIRIT LAKE - The Spirit Lake Blues Fest is back after a two-year absence.

The open air concerts will be held from 2-10 p.m. on Saturday on Maine Street. Cost is $15 in advance or $20 at the gate.

"This had been going on for more than two decades before the two-year hiatus," said Debi Montijo, an organizer.

The bars in town formerly ran the event, but it was stopped after the businesses disagreed on who would be responsible for what.

"Due to community outcry, it was decided to bring it back," Montijo said. "If there's money left over after paying for the cost of the event, it will go back into the community."

Montijo said a recipient hasn't been chosen.

Bands performing include The Fat Tones, The Culprits and George and Jeanne with The Barely Playboys. There will also be vendors at the park.

Restaurants and shops will be open, Montijo said.

There will be also be barbecues in the beer garden area of the Hideaway Cafe and across from the Linger Longer Lounge.

Montijo said the event drew between 300 and 600 people in the past.

Advance tickets can be purchased at Inland Northwest Bank on Highway 41 in Spirit Lake; the Linger Longer and the White Horse Saloon, both on Maine Street; the Shady Rest Bar in Rathdrum; or online at www.spiritlakebluesfest.webs.com.

Alcohol is only permitted inside the fenced off areas.

In addition to the festival, there will be music at local bars.

There will be parking off Maine Street for vehicles and free parking for motorcycles on the end of Maine Street.
