Tonight's opening of the high school football season includes a couple of area matchups resuming after a hiatus of a few years.

Coeur d'Alene travels to Moscow and Lake City visits Lakeland, both at 7 p.m.

Coeur d'Alene and Moscow haven't played since 2003, when the Vikings won for the fifth straight year during the series. Moscow's last win over Coeur d'Alene came in 1998.

Lake City and Lakeland are meeting for the first time since 2005, and only the ninth time since 1994, when Lake City opened. Lakeland's only win in the series came in '94.

Also tonight, 3A St. Maries travels to 2A Grangeville at 7 in the debut of St. Maries football coach Craig Tefft.

In the only game with league ramifications, Kootenai plays host to Mullan tonight at 7. Both are 1A Division II teams in the North Star League, and the matchups between Kootenai, Mullan and Clark Fork will determine the league's lone berth to the state Division II playoffs.

On Saturday, Timberlake opens its season at Libby (Mont.) at 6 p.m. PDT. The teams have opened against each other the past two seasons, with both winning at home - Libby in 2008, Timberlake last year.

The other local teams open next week, with Post Falls at Caldwell on Thursday, and Lakeside at home vs. Mullan on Friday.
