Berniece Lundin, 90

Berniece Lundin, 90, entered into rest Aug. 24, 2010. She was born July 6, 1920, in Wendell, to David William Kassens of Indiana and Grace Elvira Thompson of Nova Scotia.

In her early childhood she moved to Sandpoint, graduating from Sandpoint High School. After high school she went to Lewiston Normal School to become a teacher. Berniece taught first and second grade in Sagle, as well as Medimont School and Paradise Valley School near Bonners Ferry.

She then met Clair Lundin and they were married March 19, 1948, and proceeded to have four children, Alvin Eric, twins, Selma Grace, Ernest Elmer and Arvid Elof.

Berniece went back to school to study Special Education at Eastern Washington University, getting her credentials to teach in Washington, then moved to the Millwood area in Spokane to teach at Pasadena Elementary until she retired.

Singing and music were a passion in her life, playing piano and accordion for many years, and writing songs for children as well as hymns. Other interests included painting water color and pastels, poetry and writing short stories. She would often accompany her husband, Clair, and his twin brother, Grant, for many music jams and family gatherings.

Berniece is preceded in death by her parents, older brother Albert, sister-in- law Mary Lundin, niece Linda, daughter Selma, and sons Alvin and Ernie.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010, at Yates Funeral Home, 744 N. Fourth St., Coeur d'Alene.
