Robert A. Graves, 91

| August 25, 2010 9:00 PM

"What a good man." This simple affirmation was offered by a friend when told of Bob Graves' unexpected death on Aug. 21, 2010. Bob was born on Feb. 22, 1919, in Benton Harbor, Mich.

As the son of Rev. Alden and Erna Graves, he moved with the family to Spokane in 1926, then to Kellogg in 1930. It was there he met Charlotte Matson when they were teenagers. They married on Sept. 21, 1941. They were married one month short of 64 years when Charlotte died on Aug. 23, 2005. Bob served in the Army in Europe during World War II.

After the war, Bob moved his family from Seattle, Wash., back to Kellogg in 1948, where he worked for the Bunker Hill Co. For many of his 34 years at Bunker Hill, he was the Traffic Manager, and retired in 1982.

Bob was a life-member of the Masons in Kellogg and Murray, a life-member of the Elks and a longtime member of the Kellogg Country Club. Bob was also treasurer of the United Church in Kellogg for 25 years. Later, he was a member of the Sandpoint United Methodist Church and during the last seven years an active participant at the Coeur d'Alene Community United Methodist Church.

Bob is survived by his son, Paul (Sue) of Sandpoint; his grandson, Brian (Elvia) of Spokane, Wash.; three grandchildren (Katie, Claire and Andy), and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 30, 2010, at Greenwood Cemetery in Kellogg, the Rev. Heather Seaman officiating.

In lieu of flowers, please feel free to give memorial gifts to Hospice of North Idaho, 9493 Government Way, Hayden, ID 83835, Community United Methodist Church, 1470 W. Hanley Ave., Coeur d'Alene, ID 83815, or Sandpoint United Methodist Church, 711 W. Main St., Sandpoint, ID 83864.
