On the road with 3 teen adventurers

Jack Kerouac would be proud.

Simply for the sake of adventure, three Hayden Lake teenagers rode their bikes from Coeur d'Alene to Seattle this summer.

Scott Sturges, Stephen Sturges and Jared Pierson, ranging from 16 to 19 years old, planned the trip all on their own, said Jan Sturges, mother of two of the boys.

"They dreamed up this idea sitting around a campfire," she said. "The trip really took courage and tenacity."

Although Jan drove to Seattle to pick the boys up, she said very little of their trip was easy, otherwise.

"They slept out on baseball fields. They had many near-death experiences," she said. "It's a great story of adventure and courage." - Alecia Warren
