WSU offense finds rhythm in scrimmage

PULLMAN - The Washington State football team held its second scrimmage of fall camp Saturday at Martin Stadium, and after a defensively-dominated first scrimmage last weekend, the Cougar offense stole the show the second time around.

WSU quarterbacks Jeff Tuel and Marshall Lobbestael combined to complete 15 of 23 passes for 223 yards and three touchdowns, and neither threw an interception. Tuel, a sophomore, went 8 of 14 for 104 yards and two touchdowns with the first team, and Lobbestael, a redshirt junior, completed 7 of 9 for 119 yards and one touchdown with the second team.

Three different receivers caught touchdown passes, including a 44-yard catch-and-run for freshman Marquess Wilson from Lobbestael. Tuel hit senior Daniel Blackledge for a 4-yard score and redshirt senior Jeffrey Solomon for a 28-yarder.

Wilson led all receivers with five catches and 110 yards.

Staden also led the Cougars in rushing with 25 yards on four carries.

The defense got sacks from redshirt sophomores Dan Spitz and Steven Hoffart.
