POST FALLS - Post Falls' city center will transform into an arts and cultural mecca tonight for the first Third Fridays event.

Third Fridays is a collaboration between the Jacklin Arts and Cultural Center, chamber, museum and city center businesses to bring activity to the downtown district.

"This is something we'll do from May until October to celebrate the historic downtown and the arts and culture of Post Falls," said Rachel Dodge, JACC executive director. "This will be our debut with the community and we think this is going to blossom."

The JACC has been holding wine tastings and art displays at its gallery on Friday nights, and Third Fridays is an expansion of that to the entire city center. Several of the activities, which start at 5:30 p.m., are free.

The opening of a free glass art and jewelry show featuring 14 artists will be held at the JACC from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The wine tasting is $5 for three tastings. The show will continue through Sept. 10 and be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The band 5MOR will perform music from the Roaring 20s at 7:30 p.m. as part of the Jazz at the JACC series. Tickets are $20 at the door.

At the chamber, guitarist Jerry Turner will perform a free concert on the patio from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

There will also be a Painting with Spirits workshop from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Cost is $45 and the workshop is open to those 16 and older. Participants must sign up by noon at the chamber.

"We hope to build the program with a variety of programs, concerts and activities that local families as well as out of town visitors can participate in to familiarize them with Post Falls and local talent," chamber CEO Pam Houser said. "We invite ideas from the public as to what they would like to see at the Third Friday art walk."

Singing by the Majestic Mountain chorus will be held at the museum at 5:30 p.m.

Rosa's Italian Market and Deli will hold a free fruit and vegetable carving demonstration, wine tasting for $5 and a dinner special. Discount coupons are available at the museum, JACC and chamber.

Planning for the Third Friday events in September and October is under way.
