Earnest L. Jennings, 75

| August 20, 2010 1:11 PM

Dec. 16, 1934 - Aug. 20, 2010

"As is the life of the leaves, so is that of men. As the leaves drift to the earth's floor the vigorous forest puts forth other." (Homer 450BC)

And I, like those fallen leaves, drift to the earth's floor, leaving behind one son, Bryan Jennings; three daughters, Stacy Christensen, Kyle Colburn and Susan Vickers; several grandchildren; three brothers, Daune Jennings, Louie Jennings and Roger Jennings; one sister, Lillian Lannen; and many other extended family members.

Two remaining roots of my ancestry, the Plemel and Trampus families that immigrated from Austria in the 1840s, journeying to the northwest via the Oregon Trail, are Aunt Jean Stroyan (92) of Spokane, Wash., and Uncle Antone Trampus (91) of Rathdrum.

Growing up in the lumber and mining community of the Silver Valley, my father, Charles Jennings worked as a miner for 40 years and my mother Teresa Jennings, worked at the Farmers Market in Smelterville. There they planted roots.

I served as a U.S. Marine during the Korean Conflict from 1954 to 1956. The Silver Valley provided the educational and Athletic background for my pursuit of a career in education, which began in 1962 in the Kellogg School District. My teaching career allowed me to educate and coach many fine students from the states of Alaska, Washington, Oregon and Idaho. My experience in education provided me with opportunities to establish meaningful relationships with not only students but also with parents and other educators.

I have resided in beautiful Twin Lakes Village since 1984, where I found this community to be compassionate and caring, concerned about the well being of its residents.

"And if I go while you're still here... know that I live on vibrating to a different measure behind a veil you can not see through. You will not see me, so you must have faith. I wait for the time when we can soar together again - both aware of each other. Until then, live your life to the fullest and when you need me, just whisper my name in your heart... and I will be there." (With No Remorse, Tom Clancy)

Memorials may be made to Hospice of North Idaho.

A Celebration of Life was held by the family Sunday, Aug. 22, 2010, at Twin Lakes Village.
