Pounds romps to state junior title

LEWISTON — Alex Pounds of Coeur d’Alene shot a 67 on Tuesday at Bryden Canyon Golf Course and won the boys age 17-18 division at the Idaho Golf Association junior state golf tournament.

Pounds, who won the state 5A golf championship in May at Avondale, shot a 36-hole total of 139, winning by 10 shots over Keawe Soares of Boise. Andrew Roller of Hayden shot 73-80—153 and finished fourth, Dan Masterson of St. Maries shot 78-77—155 and tied for sixth, and Spencer Skipper of Coeur d’Alene shot 79-77—156 and finished ninth.

Kyle Kaufman of Coeur d’Alene shot 82-72—154 and finished third in the boys age 15 division. Camron Stricklin of Lewiston shot 73-78—151 to win by two strokes. Michael Porter of Coeur d’Alene shot 83-80—163 and tied for ninth. John Duffin of Hayden shot 85-79—164 and finished 11th.

Jeffrey Roseth of Coeur d’Alene shot 78-76—154 and placed second in the boys age 16 division. Will Higham of Shelley won with a 74-71—145.

Wyatt Kelley of Coeur d’Alene shot 82-81—163 and tied for ninth in the boys age 13 division. Joseph Baldeck of Clarkston shot 78-70—148 and won by eight strokes.

Corey Beaver of Post Falls shot 77-80—157 and tied for eighth in the boys age 14 division. Mark Beck of Liberty Lake, Wash., shot 73-71—144 to win by one shot. Derek Bayley of Rathdrum shot 79-82—161 and finished 15th.

Madeline Dodge of Post Falls shot 77-77—154 and finished second in the girls age 15-18 division. Kaitlen Parsons of Greenacres, Wash., shot 75-77—152 and won by two strokes. Kaceelyn Pouttu of Kellogg shot 79-78—157 and finished fourth.

In the 9-hole tournaments, Hogan Samuelson of Pinehurst shot 44-48—92 and finished third, eight strokes back, in the boys age 10 division. Tyler Gibbons of Pinehurst shot 48-51—99 and finished sixth.

Jordan Jaeger of Hayden shot 55-62—117 and finished fifth, eight shots back, in the girls age 10 division.
