Phillies take lead in Wild Card race

Roy Oswalt pitched seven sharp innings, Placido Polanco had four hits and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the visiting San Francisco Giants 9-3 on Tuesday night.

The Phillies took a one-game lead over San Francisco in the NL wild-card race. The two-time NL champions sit 2? games behind Atlanta in the East.

Marlins 6, Pirates 0: Ricky Nolasco pitched six shutout innings, leading Florida at Pittsburgh.

Braves 10, Nationals 2: Diory Hernandez sparked Atlanta with a pinch-hit homer in a win over visiting Washington.

Padres 1, Cubs 0: Jon Garland pitched seven strong innings and San Diego won at Chicago.

Brewers 3, Cardinals 2: Dave Bush pitched six stingy innings in Milwaukee's victory at St. Louis.

Dodgers 6, Rockies 0: Clayton Kershaw pitched seven solid innings and host Los Angeles beat Colorado.

Reds 6, Diamondbacks 2: At Phoenix, Paul Janish hit a tiebreaking solo homer in the seventh and Cincinnati beat Arizona.

Astros 4, Mets 3: Hunter Pence had a three-run homer in the first and his go-ahead solo shot in the eighth propelled Houston past visiting New York.

AMERICAN LEAGUE

Red Sox 6, Angels 0: Ryan Kalish hit his first career grand slam to lead Boston past visiting Los Angeles.

Twins 7, White Sox 6, 10 inn.: At Minneapolis, Jim Thome hit a two-run homer in the 10th, leading Minnesota past Chicago.

Athletics 6, Blue Jays 2: Dallas Braden pitched three-hit ball for seven innings, leading host Oakland past Toronto.

Yankees 6, Tigers 2: CC Sabathia pitched seven dominant innings, leading New York past visiting Detroit.

Rays 10, Rangers 1: At St. Petersburg, Fla., Matt Garza scattered five hits over seven scoreless innings and Tampa Bay routed Texas.

Royals 2, Indians 1: Zack Greinke pitched six strong innings and Wilson Betemit and Yuniesky Betancourt homered as Kansas City beat visiting Cleveland.
