County hires lawyer to fight sheriff

| August 18, 2010 6:33 AM

The Kootenai County commissioners are getting prepared.

The officials voted 2-0 at their weekly public meeting on Tuesday to hire an attorney to represent them in the lawsuit that Sheriff Rocky Watson filed against the county last month.

The attorney representing the commissioners will be Bentley G. Stromberg, out of Lewiston, with the Clements, Brown and McNichols firm. He will be paid the negotiated ICRIMP rate of $135 an hour.

Commissioner Rick Currie was excused from the vote due to personal matters.

Watson filed legal action against the county in late July over being denied attorney fee coverage, which he would use to sue Kootenai County over budget issues. - Alecia Warren
