St. Thomas parish to bless cornerstone

| August 17, 2010 9:00 PM

COEUR d'ALENE - St. Thomas parishioners will celebrate the 100th anniversary of laying the cornerstone for their historic church with a blessing, barbecue and ice cream social this weekend.

Father Bill Crowley will bless the cornerstone at the end of the 10 a.m. Mass on Sunday, Aug. 22.

The date is exactly 100 years after Bishop Alphonsus Glorieux laid the first cornerstone, to begin construction of St. Thomas the Apostle Church at Ninth and Indiana.

Directly after Sunday's blessing, a barbecue will take place at the parish playfield from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

An ice cream social is 2-4 p.m. at the parish center. It will include ice cream, dancing, a movie for children and historical displays about the parish and church building.
