Red Cross cut out for 'Flat Parent' project

| August 17, 2010 7:07 AM

The Red Cross is helping soldiers' children adjust to seeing their parents deployed, said Peggy Cedros, district manager for the Red Cross of North Idaho.

By providing fill-in parents.

The Red Cross is organizing its "Flat Parents" project, life-size foam cutouts of individuals with their photos pasted on.

Cutouts of mom and dad from the waist up, the imitations are meant to provide children with at least a reminder of their parents'  presence.

"We leave it with the children so they can stay connected with their mom or dad while they're over in Iraq," Cedros said. "They can take it to school activities, they can sit it at the dinner table and can sit it on the couch at night. It's a great way to stay connected and take care of those little ones who are left behind." - Alecia Warren
