Joy Marie Gilbert (Jacobson), 74

| August 17, 2010 4:52 AM

Joy Marie Gilbert (Jacobson) passed away from Alzheimer's disease at her home in Hauser on Aug. 15, 2010. Joy was born in Spokane, Wash., on Jan. 18, 1936, to Wendell and Margaret Jacobson.

Her parents and her younger sister Marie preceded Joy in death. Her husband Darell, brother John, daughters Sindi, Shari, Salli and sons Steven and Scott, and 11 grandchildren will miss her love and devotion, and foremost her laughter.

Joy was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and attended the Lakeland 1st ward in Rathdrum for 25 years. She spent many years at the church mentoring young women and weekends at home providing slumber parties and camping outings for these young women. The screams and giggles would rattle the rafters. She touched each one of their hearts like no one else could. Whenever children surrounded her she was at her happiest. She could never pass by a baby or a young child without stopping and admiring or even offering a gesture of love.

Joy loved dancing! She especially loved attending the Lost in the '50s dances every year. Music played in our home from daylight until dark. She loved the simple things in life; like tending her 40 rose plants, taking walks around the lake and picking wild flowers in the spring and making snow angels in the winter. You could never be prepared for the funny or crazy things she might do. She was not inhibited by what others thought and she believed that every minute of every day was to be lived to the fullest.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Hospice of North Idaho, 9493 N. Government Way, Hayden, ID 83835, in Joy's memory.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 20, 2010, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 15151 N. Meyer Road, Rathdrum, ID 83858.
