Bulletin: County reconsiders budget, 1 percent hike

| August 17, 2010 6:16 AM

Kootenai County Commissioner Rick Currie told The Press this morning that tomorrow night's scheduled meeting, during which the 2011 fiscal year budget was to be formally adopted, has been postponed. The meeting will take place Sept. 1 instead.

Currie said the reason for the postponement is "to make corrections in the budget and look at the 1 percent (property tax increase)."

Earlier this month, commissioners voted 2-1 to hike property taxes by 1 percent. Currie voted against the increase. Even then, the new budget is about $2 million less than last year's because of reductions in state funding and loss of income from planning and building fees.
