ELECTION: Time to reveal the truth

| August 13, 2010 10:00 PM

It has been more than 10 months since the Coeur d'Alene city election ended, and it has been eight months since the declared winners were sworn into office. If the declared winners have nothing to hide, then why is Mr. Kennedy's attorney trying so hard to keep information about the city's election from the public?

Why did it take seven months for the election administrators and the city to Allow Jim Brannon's attorney to examine the absentee ballot envelopes? What is the big secret? They say it's to protect the voters' privacy, however all voter information such as names, addresses and even signatures are already available in the public records. Everything that they are accusing Bill McCrory of saying after signing the confidentiality statement is public record. Any one of us can go down to the county elections office and get a copy of the same information that they claim is confidential. Any citizen can go to the District Court Clerk's records office at 324 Garden Ave., Coeur d'Alene, to view and copy public court records. Public records are not confidential!

Secretary of State Ben Ysursa said nothing is wrong with the election ballots. Dan English and Deedie Beard said everything has been done correctly. If the election process was truly conducted correctly, then why all the big fight to keep information about it away from the public? If they truly believe that, then why all the secrets, and why would they make people sign confidentiality statements in the first place? Why did only a few of the people that were allowed to view the records have to sign a confidentiality statement, and not everyone?

Again, WHAT IS THE BIG SECRET? What are they trying to hide from the voters?
