Vandal Celebration next Friday at Resort

The Kootenai County Vandal Boosters and Vandal Alumni cordially invite the public to attend the North Idaho Vandal Celebration on Friday, Aug. 20 at the Coeur d'Alene Resort.

Special guests will include head football coach Robb Akey, men's basketball coach Don Verlin and volleyball coach Debbie Buchanan.

Proceeds will benefit scholarships programs at the University of Idaho.

DeMers finishes

eighth at nationals

Coeur d'Alene native Garrett DeMers placed eighth at the Cadet Greco-Roman national tournament in Fargo, N.D., on July 19-24, earning All-American status by finishing in the top eight.

The Buzzsaw wrestling club has now produced four All-Americans in the last five years, with Jesse Nielsen finishing fifth, Braden Mowry seventh and Johnny Peregrina seventh.

Also competing for the Buzzsaw in the event were: Kyle Siegwarth, Kenny Staub, Jake Graham and Peregrina, who was one match from earning All-American honors.

WSU to face Portland in Cougar Hardwood Classic

Washington State will put its undefeated record in the Cougar Hardwood Classic on the line on Tuesday, Nov. 23 against the University of Portland Pilots at Seattle.

The meeting will be the 12th overall between the two teams, with WSU holding a 9-2 series lead after a 62-50 win in their last meeting in 2006.

WSU is 5-0 all-time in the Cougar Hardwood Classic, with its last win coming in a 72-70 overtime win over Louisiana State.

Spokane Chiefs finalize staff

The Spokane Chiefs finalized their staff as they announced the re-signing of assistant coach Jon Klemm and director of player personnel Chris Moulton.

They also announced that goaltending coach Denis Sproxton, athletic therapist/strength coach Todd Daniels and equipment manager Kacee Coberly will also return for the 2010-2011 seaosn.

"I'm excited about working with a new staff," Spokane head coach Don Nachbaur said. "I'm also looking forward to training camp, getting to know the guys and working with them throughout the year."

Klemm was named to the Top 25 Chiefs in 25 years in February and went on to a 17-year pro career that included a pair of Stanley Cup championships with the Colorado Avalanche in 1996 and 2001.

The Chiefs will open their annual fall camp with ice sessions on Thursday, Aug. 26.

The Red-White scrimmage will be Sunday, Aug. 29 at 1 p.m.

Both events are free and open to the public.

Warner an analyst for tonight's Shock game

Former NFL and Arena Football League quarterback Kurt Warner will be in the booth as an analyst for tonight's NFL Network broadcast of the National Conference title game between the Milwaukee Iron and the Spokane Shock at the Spokane Arena.

Tonight's game is set to kickoff at 5 p.m., with the winner facing the victor of Saturday's game between Tampa Bay and Orlando in ArenaBowl XXIII, scheduled for Aug. 20.

Circling Raven earns honor from GOLF Magazine

The Circling Raven Golf Club in Worley continues to rack up accolades from national golf publications, the latest coming after being named to the biennial list of the Top 100 "Courses You Can Play" in America.

Circling Raven was ranked 92nd on the list out of roughly 13,500 U.S. public access courses and second in the magazine's state-by-state rankings.

"Circling Raven and Coeur d'Alene Casino Resort and Hotel are honored to once again be part of Golf Magazine's esteemed list of great courses in America," Resort CEO David Lasarte Meeks said.
